How Ivermectin Works and Its Benefits for Pets

Ivermectin operates by selectively binding to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels found in the nerve and muscle cells of invertebrates, including many parasites. This binding increases the permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions, leading to hyperpolarization and subsequent paralysis and death of the parasite. Mammals, including dogs and cats, have different types of chloride channels, and Ivermectin does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier in most species, which contributes to its relative safety when used appropriately.
